A modern-day tale of finding fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs. Watch the best movies and TV shows from writer-director Taylor Sheridan on IMDb, ranked by user ratings. A Landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. A landman’s role is typically to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners who hold mineral rights in order to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and obtain the leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, man-camps, oversee the assembly of the excavating machines, and the drilling of the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also parts repairers, troubleshooters, and facilitators. Reference on CBS News Sunday Morning: 44.24. episode (2022). For a man so focused on his goals, bringing in an emotionally unstable one-woman circus completely undermines the purpose of the show. Her character seems to disrupt the central narrative and create unnecessary chaos rather than support her journey. The portrayal does not enhance the plot, but rather makes it difficult to take her determination and focus seriously. Likewise, the roles of his wife and daughter seem out of place within the series. The wife seems emotionally volatile, while the daughter lacks intellectual depth, making her contribution to the plot insignificant. Her portrayal seems particularly shallow, as her character offers little beyond superficial engagement that adds no value to the story. Furthermore, these characters constantly jump around in provocative outfits, seemingly for no purpose. Other than drawing in viewers, it is not in keeping with the tone of the series. Rather than enhancing the plot or character dynamics, this approach seems like a shallow tactic to get attention. It is a strange and unnecessary addition that detracts from the overall quality of the narrative.
